Donald Lipski's sculptures for LaGuardia High School in Manhattan are comprised of real musical instruments and instrument parts. The collection of sculptures relates to the general mission of the high school, whose focus is on music and art. Among the objects utilized in the sculptures are instruments, music stands, microphones, tutus, dance shoes and many others. The sculptures are displayed on the walls flanking the entrance to the school's theater.
About the Artist...
Donald Lipski is an internationally known artist with works in the permanent collections of museums around the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Among his most notable exhibitions was a one person exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. He has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Academy Award of the American Institute of Arts and Letters.
