The Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission is mandated by the City Charter to advise the Department of Cultural Affairs on issues relating to the City's cultural life. The current Commission, under the chairmanship of Agnes Gund, was appointed by Mayor Bloomberg in February 2003. The Commission has provided invaluable guidance and expertise on a variety of critical areas, including arts education, capital financing, management and board development and marketing.

Some Commission initiatives are supported, in part, by the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City. The Mayor's Fund is a not-for-profit organization established to strengthen public programs with support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, donations to the Mayor's Fund are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
