The NYC Young Women's Volunteer Summit was launched
in April 2008 as a joint initiative of the NYC Commission on Women's Issues, the
Mayor's Volunteer Center of NYC, and Children for Children as part of Youth
Service America's Global Youth Service Day, the largest volunteer event in the
world.
In 2009, the Summit was hosted by the Renaissance Leadership Academy in Harlem. Over 400 young New Yorkers participated in educational workshops and panel discussions on women's issues that were designed to challenge young minds and inspire community engagement. In the afternoon, Summit attendees volunteered their time to participate in hands-on service projects that benefited women in New York City.
