 NYC Young Women’s Volunteer Summit
Mayor Bloomberg Announces NYC Young Women's Volunteer Summit

On Saturday, April 26, 2008, young men and women from the five boroughs along with adult volunteers participated in the NYC Young Women's Volunteer Summit hosted by the NYC Commission on Women's Issues, the Mayor's Volunteer Center, the non-profit organization Children for Children® and CosmoGIRL! at the City University of New York Hunter College.

As part of Youth Service America's Global Youth Service Day on April 25-27, the largest volunteering event in the world, young New York City residents participated in a morning of educational workshops and panel discussions about women's issues provided by female community leaders. In the afternoon, youth engaged in hands-on service projects related to the topics discussed that benefit women in their communities and around the world.  One such service project included packaging toiletry kits from products donated to the Products of Hope drive, a citywide collection drive from April 5 - 26 launched by the Mayor earlier this month. Approximately 65 boxes of toiletry products were donated to the Products of Hope drive from public schools, City agencies/Mayor's Office, and various other companies, organizations, and individuals. These toiletry kits were then sent to victims of domestic violence in New York City who have been displaced from their homes and young women in southern Africa.
