On August 4, 2011 Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg launched one of the most comprehensive and expansive public private initiatives designed to address disparities between young African American and Latino men and their peers. Over the next three years, the City will invest a combination of public and private funds, totaling $127 million, to support new programs and policies designed to break down barriers to success and help young men achieve their professional, educational and personal goals.
Programs & Policies
The Young Men’s Initiative will focus policies and programs in four areas: education, health, employment and justice. And across each area, many of the Young Men’s Initiative (YMI) programs involve a mentoring component.
