Learning Independence in Empowerment (LIFE) Transitions Program

Giving detained youth the tools they need for future success.

Program Description
Each year in New York City, more than 3,500 youth return to their communities from detention and face significant obstacles transitioning back to school and attaching to positive, mainstream activities.

LIFE Transitions Program (LTP) offers youth in secure detention facilities weekly educational and empowerment workshops focussed on school attachment and future career possibilities and an opportunity to form a bond with program staff. Young people are encouraged to continue the program upon their return to the community where they can attend workshops and receive additional support services.

Eligibility: Young Adults ages 11 to 17, currently detained or recently released from either Horizon Juvenile Center in the Bronx, or Crossroads Juvenile Center in Brooklyn.

Partner Agency: The Department of Juvenile Justice
