Event Permitting

Various approvals and permits are needed to produce an event; shoot a film; have a block party or street festival; conduct a procession, parade, or race; or have an event in a New York City park.  To that end, when conducting any of the aforementioned events, you will need to obtain a permit from one of the City’s primary permitting agencies (PPA) – Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation (BBPC); Economic Development Corporation (EDC); the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB); The Trust for Governors Island (TGI); the New York City Police Department (NYPD); the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) or the Mayor’s Street Activity Permit Office (SAPO).

In addition, some events will require approvals and permits from some of the City’s support permitting agencies (SPA) for components within your event. For example, if you are constructing a stage, you will need to obtain a permit from the Department of Buildings. If you are having pyrotechnics, you will need to receive a permit from the Fire Department. If you are serving food, you will need to obtain a permit from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, etc.

This website is designed to guide you through the event permitting process and direct you to the appropriate agencies in order to obtain the proper permits. We look forward to a safe and successful event.
