Restaurant Fined in Race Discrimination Case |
The NY State Supreme Court ordered the Silver Dragon restaurant
in March 2004 to pay a $5,000 penalty in a discrimination case based
upon race after the Brooklyn restaurant appealed the Commission's
Final Decision and Order. CCHR’s testers found during their
investigation that the restaurant was refusing to prepare take-out
orders for African-Americans until they paid for the food. White
customers, who placed the same order were permitted to pay for the
food when they received it. The $10,000 fine that CCHR initially
recommended was reduced on appeal.
