The Commission ordered the owners of an apartment building to pay a fine to the City in the amount of $20,000 after refusing to accept a tenant’s Section 8 rent voucher, forcing the tenant to move out of the building, and trying to convince her not to file a complaint with the Commission.

NY State Appeals Court Upholds Commission’s Ruling on Age Discrimination Case, 05-02-11
The Appellate Division, First Department, unanimously affirmed an earlier decision by the Commission that found that a complainant had not been discriminated against based on her age and dismissed her case.

Commission Co-Hosts 2 Forums on Avoiding Immigration-Related Employment Discrimination 04-21-11
The Commission co-hosted two forums on avoiding immigration-related employment discrimination with the Queens Borough President’s Immigration Task Force and The NY Immigration Coalition, informing employers and immigrant advocacy groups of the protections and obligations they have under federal and City laws. Jennifer Sultan, Acting Special Policy Counsel, Office of Special Counsel for Immigrant-Related Unfair Practices, Civil Rights Division, US Dept. of Justice, was the keynote speaker at both forums.
