Unless otherwise noted, Design Commission final approval (preliminary in the case of artwork installation, relocation or conservation) is conditioned upon commencement of work within two years of the date of that approval. Should the approval expire before construction/fabrication begins, a formal request for an extension must be submitted by the agency. No more than three consecutive requests for two-year extensions (for a total of eight years from the original approval date) will be considered.
The Commission reserves the right to request design changes once an approval has expired. All requests for extensions must be submitted on a standard submission deadline and include all of the materials noted below. Agencies must allow sufficient time for review and approval of requests for extensions.
A request for an extension must include:
- A written explanation of the construction/fabrication delay.
- The current project schedule.
- Written confirmation that the design has not changed since approval or a written explanation of all design changes, including why they were not previously submitted for review.
- Two sets of complete bid documents/fabrication drawings for comparison with the approved design.
