Submission Guidelines - Works of Art

Removal, Relocation, Alteration or Conservation of Works of Art

Preliminary Review

  1. Two copies of the Application Form signed by the Commissioner or designated City agency representative.

  2. The conservator’s curriculum vitae, including examples of similar work

  3. Two (2) hard copies, properly collated and stapled, and one electronic copy1 of a concise, but thorough, report including:

    a. Historical documentation, condition and proposed treatment and/or relocation techniques.
    b. A minimum of eight (8) loose 8” x 10” photographs of the work in situ showing the existing conditions from various points of view. 2
    c. A location plan at both neighborhood and borough scales.
    d. A site plan (if applicable) of current and proposed locations at a minimum scale of: 1” = 40’.

Preliminary approval is conditioned upon commencement of work within two years of the preliminary approval date and submission of this project for final review and approval.

Final Review

  1. Two copies of the Application Form signed by the Commissioner or designated City agency representative.

  2. A minimum of three (3) 8" x 10" color archival quality photographs depicting three different views of the completed work. 2

  3. Two hard copies, collated and stapled, and one electronic copy of the following items:

    a. A concise, but thorough, account of the work performed and techniques utilized.
    b. A specific maintenance plan detailing the future preservation of the artwork.

1 Electronic reports must be submitted in PDF or Word format no larger than 3MB. For reports larger than 3MB, nine (9) hard copies, properly collated and stapled, are required. Please do not use binders or plastic sleeves.

2 All photos must be clearly labeled on the back. Polaroids or color photocopies will not be accepted. If using a digital camera, photographs must be printed on photo-quality paper.
