Dr. Mahnaz Ispahani Bartos serves on the Public Design Commission of the City of New York as the representative of the New York Public Library where she is a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Board. She also co-chairs the Program and Policy Committee. Mahnaz is a foreign affairs expert and has served as senior advisor to several private institutions on global security, and religion and culture, including the Carnegie Corporation, the Luce Foundation, the Open Society Institute and the Asia Society. She served for nearly a decade (1992-2002) at the Ford Foundation, and between 2002 and 2006 as Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. As a policy scholar, she has published widely over three decades. Mahnaz has been a senior scholar at the Smithsonian Institution (Woodrow Wilson Center) and Harvard University (Belfer Center). She received her B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from Wellesley College where she went on to serve as a Trustee from 2004 until 2012. She also received an M.A.L.D and a Ph.D. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
