James Stewart Polshek is the architect member of the Public Design Commission of the City of New York. As founder and Senior Design Counsel of Polshek Partnership Architects, Jim has led the internationally acclaimed firm of 150 across the entire spectrum of architectural endeavor, including new building design, historic preservation and adaptive reuse. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Jim was awarded the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter’s Medal of Honor and the Municipal Art Society’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal, and was inducted into both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. From 1972 to 1987, he was Dean of the Faculty of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and Special Advisor to the President for Planning and Design at Columbia University, where he was a tenured Professor of Architecture. Jim received a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University, and holds Honorary Doctorates from Pratt Institute, New School University and New Jersey Institute of Technology.
