Population Change Indicator Source: US Census. Total population at the census tract level, as measured in 2000 and 2010. For census tract changes between 2000 and 2010, crosswalk equivalent between the two years is used. To aggregate at the NTA level, all of the census tracts within the NTA are summed. Percentage change. Presented as a map layer.
New Business Indicator Sources: NYC DCA, NYC DOHMH. Base data consists of geocoded license data from businesses permitted by DCA and/or DOHMH. Raw data is run through a probabilistic entity resolution algorithm that uses firm name, location, license date and business type to estimate the number of unique firms at the tax lot level. To aggregate at the NTA level, all of the tax lots with the NTA boundaries are summed. Percentage change between November 2011 and November 2013. Presented as a map layer.
New Restaurant Indicator Source: NYC DOHMH. Base data consists of geocoded license data from non-institutional food service establishments permitted by DCA and/or DOHMH. Taxable Sales Revenue Change Indicator Source: NYC DOF. Total taxable revenue for all blocks where 10 or more reporting businesses exist. Data are reported for Tax Year 2008 and Tax Year 2012. To aggregate at the NTA level, all  the reporting blocks are summed for each year. Some geographic areas have been omitted to preserve filer privacy. Percentage change. Presented as a map layer.
Value Per Square Foot Change Indicator Sources: NYC DCP, PLUTO. Assessed value per square foot of the tax lot, as reported in the November 2011 and September 2013 versions of PLUTO. To aggregate at the NTA level, the weighted average by total lot area is calculated. Lots with zero or missing values are dropped from the calculation. Percentage change. Presented as a map layer.
Pedestrian Activity Indicator Source: Placemeter. Placemeter uses a proprietary algorithm that leverages third-party data to capture pedestrian activity for a given location. The indicator presented here is primarily based on geotagged social actions like tweets and Facebook posts. The time period of the data is November 2013. Activity is scaled by the relative size of each NTA. Presented as a map layer.

Total Population Source: US Census. Total population at the census tract level, and is measured in 2010. Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Average Household Size Source: US Census. Average household size of reporting households. Data is reported at the census tract level, and is measured in 2010.  Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Median Household Income Sources: US Census, American Community Survey. Median household income for reporting households.  Data is reported at the PUMA level, and is measured as a 3-year average (2009-2011). Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Percentage of Households with Children Source: US Census. Percentage of reporting households with children under the age of 18. Data is reported at the census tract level, and is measured in 2010.  Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Percentage of Households Moved Within the Past Eight Years Sources: US Census, American Community Survey. Percentage of reporting households that report moving to current residence in 2005 or later. Data is reported at the PUMA level, and is measured as a 3-year average (2009-2011). Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Percentage of Households that Rent Apartment Source: US Census. Percentage of reporting, occupied households that are renter-occupied.  Data is reported at the census tract level, and is measured in 2010.  Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Percentage of Households Working from Home Sources: US Census, American Community Survey. Percentage of reporting households that report working from home. Denominator is all households containing workers ages 16 and older. Data is reported at the PUMA level, and is measured as a 3-year average (2009-2011). Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error.
Population Distribution Percentages Source: US Census. Percentage of population within the reported age bracket. Data is reported at the census tract level, and is measured in 2010.  Numbers are estimates, and are reported with a margin of error. Due to rounding, numbers may not sum to 100.
BUSINESS CONDITIONS
Taxable Sales Revenue Source: NYC DOF. Total taxable revenue for all blocks where 10 or more reporting businesses exist. Reported for Tax Year 2012. Data is aggregated at the NTA level to preserve filer privacy. 
Land Use and Zoning Indicators Source: NYC DCP, PLUTO. Weighted average of the land  use categorization of the tax lots within the Neighborhood Tabulation Area containing the center location. Categorizations are based on NYC PLUTO categories.  Weights are the fraction of land area covered by each reporting tax lot. Values are estimates, and due to irregular tax lot sizes, may not fall exactly within the neighborhood radius.
Estimated Business Breakdown Sources: NYC DCA, NYC DOHMH, NY Liquor Authority. Estimated number of businesses in each category witihin the Neighborhood Tabulation Area containing the center location. Categories are based on licenses and inspections performed by NYC's DCA and DOHMH, as well as data available from the New York State Liquor Authority on New York State OpenData. Data is current as of November 2013. Values are estimates, and due to irregular tax lot sizes, may not fall exactly within the neighborhood radius.
