Sixty-five Nepalese and Tibetan immigrants completed the English for Empowerment Program at Adhikaar - a women-led non-profit working with Nepali communities in NYC. The program uses the Emmy-award winning We Are New York series to help adults learn English and find out about useful City services. For many, the graduation ceremony marked the first time they received certificates for formal schooling. Participants were very enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn, with some traveling from as far as Long Island to Queens every week just to attend Adhikaar's program.
