College Support
A network of education counselors and peers provide individual assistance with transfer applications, financial aid applications, scholarship applications and support throughout their college experience. Our resource library provides information on senior colleges, scholarships, grants, college survival tips, and much more. We also offer technical assistance to staff interested in learning more about college programming.
College Tours
Students in two-year institutions, who are considering transferring to a four-year institution, are given exposure to college life on a variety of campuses throughout New York State, Pennsylvania, New England, New Jersey, and southern states. College tours are scheduled periodically throughout the year. For more information about planned college tours contact an OYD education counselor.
Back-to-School Package
New Yorkers For Children has generously funded a back-to-school package for all students in ACS direct care enrolled in the G.A.T.E. College Program. Back-to-school packages include a laptop computer, printer, dictionary, thesaurus, pre-paid telephone card, pre-paid Staples gift card, tote bag, linens, and other items.
Proper documentation regarding full-time college enrollment status is required.
Pen Pal Program
This year the G.A.T.E. College Program will match students enrolled in college with students in high school to begin correspondence. Our hope is that high school youth will begin to learn about the college experience
through their pen pal and become inspired to attend.
Monthly Newsletter
Through our monthly newsletter, youth in college receive vital information on ETVs, Independent Living (IL) Stipend Distribution dates, scholarship information, motivational messages, college survival tips, and much more. Please contact an OYD education counselor to have your e-mail address added to our distribution list.
