Nuestros Niños Gets New Playground
On Thursday, April 21, more than 100 volunteers and residents of Williamsburg worked nonstop to assemble in less than 24 hours the new playground at the Nuestros Niños Child Development School at 384 South Fourth St. in Brooklyn. The playground’s design is based on drawings created by children at the center.
Nuestros Niños is funded by the Administration for Children’s Services, and provides child care to approximately 120 children at the Williamsburg center. The project marked the official launch of Let’s Play, is a community effort led by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group to get kids and families active nationwide. Let’s Play is providing funding to KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play, to build or fix up 2,000 playgrounds by the end of 2013, benefiting an estimated five million children across North America.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz (center) along with Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez; Council Member Diana Reyna,; Darell Hammond, founder and CEO of KaBOOM!, Marcel Van Ooyen, executive director, GrowNYC, and Greg Artkop, director of corporate communications, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, join children of Nuestros Ninos in cutting the ribbon to the new playground.
Volunteers work on a section of the new playground.
