Residents at ACS secure detention facilities Crossroads Juvenile Center, Brooklyn and Horizon Juvenile Center in the Bronx are now wearing new uniforms. The blue and brown jumpers have been replaced by green (boys) and orange (girls) polo shirts with grey pants. The shirts are emblazoned with the word “ASPIRE” signifying “Action, Safety, Participation, Inner Development, Respect and Education” the major underlying concepts of the behavior modification program used by the centers. It is hoped that the new uniforms will provide a more collegial atmosphere and encourage the residents to become high achievers. The change in uniforms from the institutional jumpers to polo shirts and pants is emblematic of the approach to prepare youth for success when they return to the community.
