First Class Graduates New Leadership Academy
Commissioner John B. Mattingly saluted the inaugural class of the Leadership Academy for Child Safety, as 30 graduates completed 8 months of training. The Academy is a new professional development opportunity that was designed specifically to develop a cadre of future leaders in child welfare as part of the Safeguarding Our Children Action Plan in 2006.

New York City Celebrates Sixth Annual Day of the Child
Children’s Services and Children Uniting Nations hosted NYC’s Annual Mentor Recruitment Event for Youth in Foster Care on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Armory Track and Field Center in Upper Manhattan. Approximately 600 children and 300 adults came together to enjoy games and interactive activities. The featured performances were by Hip-Hop Legend Doug E. Fresh and Music Stars CeCe Peniston and Shanice.

ACS Launches Beauty Salon Awareness Project in DV Awareness Initiative
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Children’s Services Washington Heights Family Preservation Program has partnered with AmeriGroup Community Care and Harlem-Dowling Westside Center Respite Program to educate beauty salon owners and operators in the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods to recognize indications of domestic abuse among their patrons.

ACS Celebrates Latino Heritage Month
ACS’s Latino Heritage committee has organized various activities throughout the City in celebration of this year’s Latino Heritage Month with the theme “Latino Visions.” The opening ceremony kicked-off on September 18th at District Council 37’s headquarters, featuring Latino motivational speakers, entertainment, and cuisine. This year’s theme is “Visions of Latin Power and Wealth.”

Hundreds of Reunified Families Celebrate at Annual Family Fun Day
In recognition of the thousands of New York City parents and children who were safely reunited following a child welfare experience, or who receive preventive services, Children’s Services hosted the third annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 15 at Riverbank State Park in Upper Manhattan. Over 450 families spent an afternoon of Carnivale themed entertainment, activities, and educational offerings for all ages.

Washington Heights Family Preservation Program Celebrates 15 Years
The Washington Heights Family Preservation Program (FPP) celebrated its first Family Reunion at a Riverbank State Park picnic on August 30th. The event commemorated the program's 15 years of service to community-based service providers in Washington Heights.

Take Our Children to Work Day
It was “Take Our Children to Work Day” on July 18, and more than 550 ACS staffers did just that. Children participated at most ACS locations. The day was launched at 150 William St. with a continental breakfast and opening remarks from Commissioner John B. Mattingly and Dr. Elisabeth Jackson, PhD., Director of Neighborhood Based services.
