Home Schooling / Home Instruction
Home Schooling / Home Instruction ImageHome Schooling refers to when a parent or caregiver chooses to educate their child at home. They must submit a letter of intent to the Director of the Central Office of Home Schooling, Mr. William Harrington at (917) 339-1748. A Home Schooling information packet can be requested by calling (917) 339-1750.

The parent or caregiver must then submit an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP). The child’s work and evidence of academic progress must be submitted on a regular basis.

Home Instruction

Home Instruction is a temporary educational program for children with documented medical or psychiatric conditions which prevent them from attending a school environment. The request for Home Instruction must be made in writing by a medical doctor or psychiatrist. The form should be submitted to the Home Instruction Office in the Borough where the child resides. Staff from Home Instruction will consult with the referral source and determine if the child is eligible. Please note that Home Instruction is provided no more than two hours per day. Chancellor’s Regulations outline more specific details.
