Biography of Executive Dir.
Desirée Kim is the Executive Director of the Mayor's Advisory Committee on the Judiciary. She serves as an advisor to the Mayor on candidates nominated by the Committee for judicial appointment as well as incumbent judges approved by the Committee for reappointment, and she oversees the administration and operation of the work of the Committee. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Kim served as Special Inspector General for Bias Matters of the New York State Unified Court System from June 1999 to May 2002. In that capacity, she was charged with conducting statewide confidential investigations, audits, and evaluations regarding employment-related discrimination claims involving court employees and court users. She also revised and updated the Unified Court System's policies and procedures in the reporting of bias related matters in accordance with the most current legal mandates. From January 1999 to June 1999, she served as Deputy Special Inspector General for Bias Matters of the Unified Court System. From November 1996 to January 1999, Ms. Kim served as Deputy Inspector General for the New York City Department of Investigation. In that capacity, she supervised confidential investigations regarding claims of corruption, fraud, and gross mismanagement against New York City employees and individuals engaged in business with the City. From June 1995 to November 1996, she served as an Examining Attorney at the Department of Investigation and was the lead attorney on then the largest tax fraud case in City history. From September 1990 to May 1995, Ms. Kim served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department. She litigated and tried cases in federal and state courts representing the City, its agencies, and officials in civil rights actions and CPLR Article 78 proceedings. Ms. Kim received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from Barnard College, Columbia University, and her Juris Doctor in 1990 from Brooklyn Law School.
