- Since 2005, the New York public school graduation rate has increased 39 percent.
- In 2012, the New York City public school graduation rate held steady at 64.7 percent even as students are required to reach higher and higher standards in order to earn a diploma.
- The higher graduation standards reflect the realities of the 21st century, when students need more skills to succeed economically.
- Since 2005, the New York City's Public School dropout rate has dropped by nearly half. Today the dropout rate is at an all-time low.
- The five and six year graduation rates have continued to rise. In 2012, 71.1 percent of students graduated in five years, compared to 70.4 percent in 2011, and 73.2 percent graduated in six years, compared to 70.9 percent the year before.
- The number of students who earned Regents diplomas rose by 10 percent in 2012, and has more than doubled since 2005 from 30 percent to 61.5 percent.
