Alternate Side Parking Information and Assistance

The City posts signs that tell drivers when parking is not allowed because the street will be cleaned. These parking regulations are commonly referred to as "alternate side parking." The signs usually include the letter "P" with a broom through it. The City suspends alternate side parking regulations on 34 legal and religious holidays. Regulations also may be suspended for severe weather or other reasons.

The 2010 Alternate Side Parking Calendar is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Italian, Korean, or Russian. You can download a copy of the calendar or you can import the dates into your calendar application.

You can send a request to the City for a new street cleaning sign or cleaning rules for a new street. You may also ask to change existing rules for a street by sending a letter to:

Department of Sanitation
Office of Community Affairs
125 Worth Street, Room 728
New York, NY 10013
