Abandoned Baby Prevention Information

The City provides information about what to do with an unwanted newborn.

You can bring an unwanted newborn baby who is five days old or younger to any firehouse, police station, or hospital. No personal questions will be asked. Make sure that the baby is safe and warm and leave it with an adult. If you cannot leave the baby with anyone at these locations, let a responsible adult know where the baby is as soon as possible. You can also call 911 to say where you left the baby.

If the baby is older than five days, you may go to an Administration for Children's Services (ACS) Field Office to talk about giving someone else custody of the child or giving up your parental rights.
