Raccoon Roundworm Infection

The City has found two cases of human infection with raccoon roundworm in Brooklyn. Human infection is rare and it can't be caught from another person. People can get raccoon roundworm by ingestng raccoon feces.

You can take the following precautions to prevent infection:

  • Remove open food and water containers from your yard.
  • Keep trash containers tightly closed.
  • Hire a licensed professional to trap raccoons living in your yard or home.
  • Supervise small children in areas where raccoons live to prevent contact with feces.
  • Clean up animal waste from your yard or home using gloves and disposable bags, and place it in the trash.
