Unwanted Pet

Animal Care and Control (ACC) will accept your unwanted pet at a Care Center. Every effort will be made to have the animal adopted. Those animals that cannot be placed in a home will be humanely euthanized. Animal Care and Control does not provide pick-up for animals.

The fees for each animal dropped off at a Care Center are $35.00 for possible adoption or $75.00 to specifically euthanize. If you request adoption but the animal is not placed in a home and must later be humanely euthanized, your cost remains $35.00.

Animal Care and Control only accepts animals from within New York City.

You may also want to contact Pets for Life, for help solving a problem that might let you keep your pet. They can provide information about behavior training for dogs and cats, guidance for landlord/tenant issues caused by your pet, and allergy solutions. If you have a restricted income, you may also qualify for reduced-cost veterinary care and for reduced-cost boarding or a foster home for your pet during a crisis.
