Bluebelt Information

The City provides information about the Bluebelt Program, including how you can help maintain the Bluebelt.

A Bluebelt is a collection of wetlands that naturally filter and drain storm water runoff. The City maintains the Staten Island Bluebelt for storm water management instead of storm sewers.

The Bluebelt Program offers local people, community groups, and companies an opportunity to enhance Staten Island's open spaces by acting as sponsors who adopt parts of the Bluebelt. Under the program, sponsors can hire private companies to maintain Bluebelt sites. Each sponsor is acknowledged with a sign displaying their name at the adopted site.

The City also sponsors six Friends of the Bluebelt cleanup events each year and provides opportunities for groups to organize their own events.
