On March 4, 2010, Mayor Bloomberg had launched Mentor it Forward at his annual Women’s History Month celebration. Created by the NYC Commission on Women’s Issues in partnership with Barnard College, Mentor it Forward is a unique “speed mentoring” program created to provide students with access to successful professional women who are otherwise unable to participate in traditional mentor programs that require lengthy time commitments. During each Mentor it Forward session, professional women meet one-on-one with students for a few minutes each. The sessions are meant to be brief and informative and to give the students the opportunity to learn from successful professional women about career advice, benefits and challenges unique to women in their fields of interest, and to receive feedback on their intended career paths and goals. There will be future Mentor it Forward events throughout 2012. For more information on event dates, times and locations please visit www.nyc.gov/women.
