HPD Section 8 - Program Update

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) will help certain NYCHA Section 8 applicants who were issued NYCHA Section 8 vouchers that were then withdrawn in December 2009. This assistance will not apply to new HPD applicants or applicants on HPD's Section 8 waitlist.

NYCHA has sent letters to certain other Section 8 applicants whose vouchers were withdrawn to provide them with an update. NYCHA has transferred 1944 of its current tenants to HPD.

All affected applicants and tenants should have received a letter from the agency that will handle their existing or pending housing subsidy going forward. All applicants who received an application from HPD should complete and return the application they received by U.S. mail in the envelope they received. If there are any questions, tenants or applicants should call the agency that sent them a letter.

If you didn't get a letter from either HPD or NYCHA but your voucher was withdrawn by NYCHA in December 2009, you should contact the NYCHA Customer Contact Center at (718)707-7771. If you were referred by NYCHA to HPD but did not receive an HPD application or a letter of invitation to HPD, please conatct HPD's Client Services Unit at (917)286-4300.
