Utilities and vendors of utility services that do business in New York City are subject to the utility tax. The City provides information for these utilities and utility vendors on this tax.
Utilities include gas and electric companies, telephone companies, and certain transportation companies. Companies that derive 80 percent or more of gross receipts from mobile telecommunications services are also considered utilities.
