Booted Vehicle Information

The City has a new enforcement program involving vehicle booting. If you owe more than $350 for parking tickets or red light or bus lane camera violations in judgment, your vehicle can be booted. A pilot program began in Brooklyn on June 25th, 2012, in Queens on July 30th, and in Staten Island on August 20th.

The boot is a yellow metal clamping device that is attached to 1 of the 4 wheels to prevent a vehicle from moving. Booting is actually faster, easier and more convenient than towing for registered owners to resolve their debt because they do not have to go to another location to get their vehicle released.

When a vehicle is booted, a notice will be placed under the windshield wiper on the driver's side. For the vehicle to be released, booting charges have to be paid in addition to the balance of parking tickets or camera violation judgments, interest and fees.
