Juvenile Probation Supervision Information

The City offers information about the Department of Probation (DOP), which supervises juvenile offenders. DOP will supervise youth who have been placed on probation by a judge in the Family Court. Juvenile delinquents, who were age 7 through 15 at the time of arrest, can be placed under the supervision of DOP for up to two years.

The youth is assigned to a Probation Officer who ensures that he or she complies with the conditions set by the judge, including paying restitution to victims, community service, and drug treatment. The Probation Officer is also responsible for monitoring the probationer's adjustment at home and at school. When necessary, a violation of probation is filed and the youth is returned to the court.

Contact the Department of Probation's (DOP) juvenile services to get information about juvenile probation supervision in each borough.
