The Department of Finance (Finance) holds cash bail in criminal cases. About six weeks after a case ends, the court sends a refund order to Finance. Finance then mails a refund check to the person who posted bail.
If the case results in a conviction, the City will take a 3% administrative fee. There is no fee if the case ends in an acquittal or a dismissal of charges.
