Home Repair Assistance for Seniors

The City sponsors two non-profit organizations that provide free minor house repairs to income-eligible homeowners and tenants ages 60 and older.

Types of assistance include minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical work, caulking, installation of crime prevention devices, installation of grab bars in the bathroom, and first floor gutter cleaning. Major work, such as the installation of a ramp, is not provided.

Depending on individual situations, some condominium or co-op owners may also qualify.

You can contact either:
The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty at 212-453-9525; or
The New York Foundation at 212-962-7559.
