Store Door Open While Air Conditioner Running

The City accepts complaints about chain stores and commerical establishments such as malls and shopping centers in the five boroughs of New York City that leave their doors open while air conditioners or central cooling systems are on.

The City's air conditioning prohibitions do not apply to small stores that have less than 4,000 square feet of retail or wholesale space and are not one of a chain of stores. The prohibition also does not apply to doors that open to outdoor seating areas where food or drinks are served or doors that are open during the delivery and shipping of goods.
